Celebrating the White Peak Loop

When we first moved to Matlock, it was the White Peak Trail that gave us space to breathe. During lockdown, when life felt uncertain and the world had slowed to a halt, the trail offered us freedom — for runs, family walks, muddy cycle rides, and moments of quiet along the limestone hills. It’s not just a path through the countryside; it became a lifeline.

So we were thrilled to see the official launch of the White Peak Loop celebrated this week, right here in Cromford, just minutes from Piggy in the Middle. As part of English Tourism Week 2025, the event brought together local leaders, businesses and community partners to shine a light on this extraordinary 42-mile circular route.

The White Peak Loop is a scenic circuit linking Buxton, Matlock, Bakewell and back again — weaving through deep dales, heritage hotspots, peaceful farmland and the traffic-free Monsal and High Peak Trails. It’s perfect for walkers, cyclists, horse-riders, families, and anyone wanting a slower, richer way to explore the Peak District.

And for children? It’s brilliant. Our little ones love spotting the steam trains chugging along the Peak Rail line beside the trail, and there are plenty of places to stop for a snack or a paddle. Whether you’re pushing a pram, riding a bike, or just looking for a weekend wander, the trail is wonderfully accessible and full of surprises.

From its roots in Derbyshire’s industrial past to its future as a beacon of sustainable tourism, the White Peak Loop offers more than just good views. It connects communities, boosts local businesses, and invites us to step into the landscape — not just pass through it.

We’re proud to support this initiative and to be part of the wider network of independent stays, cafés, bike hire shops, and visitor attractions that make this route so special.

Whether you’re staying or just passing through Matlock, we absolutely recommend lacing up your boots or hopping on a bike to explore the White Peak Loop. You’ll fall in love with Derbyshire all over again.
