1 mile south
Matlock Bath
The illuminations village, strung along the gorge of the Derwent. Smaller than Matlock but worth knowing, especially in autumn.
5 miles north
Rowsley
The LEVEL Centre, Peak Village, and the start of the White Peak Trail. Accessible by bike from Matlock along the old railway line.
2 miles south
Cromford
The world's first water-powered cotton mill. A UNESCO World Heritage Site that earns its status — particularly the August events programme at Cromford Mills.
30–60 minutes
Wider Peak District
Sheffield's trail network, the High Peak and White Peak loops, Chatsworth. Matlock's position puts all of this within range without needing to be in the centre of the tourist zone.
